As many as a dozen first responders will participate in a full scale exercise rehearsing response to and clearing of traffic crashes on area roadways on Tuesday, June 19, at the Joplin Public Safety Training Center, 5501 Dennis Weaver Driver, the Missouri Department of Transportation said.
The participants will practice a coordinated, multi-agency response to clear crashes and restore traffic flow as safely and quickly as possible.
“We will stage a crash scene with large and small vehicles,” said Bruce Pettus, MoDOT’s Incident Management Coordinator, “and then apply the skills and traffic management techniques taught in the National Traffic Incident Management Responder training course.”
The day includes a four-hour traffic incident management class beginning at 8 a.m. with the exercise beginning at 1 p.m.
Participants will include area fire and police departments, wrecker services, hospitals and ambulance services.
Area news media are encouraged to stop by the class and/or the exercise. Participants will be available for interviews following the exercise.
