(From the Galena Police Department)
For the period of May 8th, 2018 to June 4th, 2018 your officers took 52 Incident Reports. We arrested 15 individuals on Felony person’s crimes, traffic charges, warrants, driving under the Influence, felony drug possession, domestic battery, and Arson. Here is a sample of what we dealt with!
On May 8th, a 49 year old Galena man was arrested and charged with Battery subsequent to an incident occurring in the 800 block of West 7th street, where he allegedly pushed and attempted to punch another Galena man.
On May 9th, Galena Police received dispatch to a report of an erratic driving vehicle and disturbance in the area of 12th and Euclid. The investigation determined the 28 year old Galena man who was suspect did not have a valid driver’s license. The suspect was later located and arrested for driving while suspended and reckless driving due to the threat posed to the public by his actions.
On May 10th, a 21 year old Galena man was stopped for defective equipment. The investigation led to his arrest for driving while suspended, and possession of felony controlled substances and paraphernalia.
On May 27th, a Galena Police Officer was finishing off a midnight snack in the 800 block of W 11th street when he noticed a Chevrolet pickup traveling at an extremely high rate of speed east bound on 11th. The officer was able to stop the vehicle in the 1200 block of Dewey where he noticed the driver appeared to be under the influence. The driver failed field sobriety testing and subsequently provided a breath sample nearly twice the legal limit. The subject admitted to having ten beers and a couple of shots earlier in the evening but felt because he normally could “drink a thirty pack without problem” and had slept for a couple of hours he would be fine to drive. Folks, I’ll try not to sound condescending here. Your tolerance of alcohol has little effect on blood alcohol concentration. Some people metabolize alcohol slightly faster than others, but the difference in metabolic rate is very minimal. A .08 blood alcohol concentration is prohibited by statute, no matter your tolerance. Bottom line- Don’t drink and drive!
On May 28th, Galena Police received dispatch to the 1800 block of Galena for a house fire and disturbance. Two Galena men were arrested for a fight involving a knife and a baseball bat.
On May 29th, Galena Police received dispatch to the Galena Motel. When the officer arrived, the dumpster in the alley was fully engulfed in flames. A 27 year old Galena woman had been in a domestic dispute with her husband and decided to take it out on his belongings. A TV and X-box were destroyed in the parking lot, and all of the male halves’ possessions were destroyed in the dumpster fire. The woman was arrested for arson and trespassing and transported to the county jail. (Note: The carnival didn’t open till the next day!)
