Neosho man charged with assault, armed criminal action after shooting on 249

On June 9, 2018 at 2:08 p.m. Joplin Police responded to Route 249 in reference to a shooting.

When officers arrived on scene, there was one male with life threatening injuries who was transported to a local hospital. The person believed to be the shooter was still on scene. Investigators were notified and responded to the scene. 

At this time we believe this is an isolated incident and the investigation is still ongoing. Christopher D. Montz, 23-year-old male from Neosho, Missouri, has been arrested for Assault in the 1st Degree and Armed Criminal Action. He is currently in custody in the Joplin City Jail. Detectives from the Joplin Police Department are still currently working this active investigation.

The Joplin Police Department would like to thank the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, Newton County Sheriff’s Office, Missouri State Highway Patrol and the Missouri Department of Transportation for their assistance with this incident.
