Barton County officers execute search warrant at Super 8 Motel, arrest Ohio man, confiscate heroin

(From the Barton County Sheriff's Office)

On 03-29-2019 the Barton County Sheriff’s Office received information pertaining to the possibility of illegal drugs being in one of four rooms at the Super 8 Hotel in Lamar Heights.

The investigation of the illegal substance was a direct result of great work and observations of an employee of the business.

The Sheriff’s Office believed they had enough information to apply for a search warrant for the rooms. An affidavit was written, and a search warrant was granted to search the rooms.

The Barton County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Lamar Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol executed the search warrant at approximately 9 pm. Three subjects were detained during the execution of the search warrant.

At the conclusion of the investigation, one man was taken into custody for being in possession of a controlled substance. The substance is believed to be the illegal drug heroin. Steven D. Martin, age 38, of Byesville Ohio was arrested and transported back to the Barton County Jail.

On 03-30-2019 Barton County Prosecuting Attorney Mike Smalley issued a warrant and it was served to Martin for the criminal charge of possession of a controlled substance with a bond amount of $5,000 cash or surety.

Sheriff Shaw would like to thank the Lamar Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol with there assistance in the execution of the search warrant. Due to the amount of others customers staying at the business it was a delicate situation to keep everybody safe.

Lamar Officer Toby Luce and K9 Hondo was put to work in searching the rooms and was able to locate the substance.

The chargers are mere accusations and the defendants are innocent unless and until proven guilty in a Court of Law.
