According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2013 Chevrolet Equinox driven by Dale W. Richardson, 36, Neosho, traveled off the roadway and struck a concrete culvert.
A passenger, Mary A. Coy, 46, Neosho, was pronounced dead at the scene by Newton County Assistant Coroner Jerry Deems.
Richardson was treated for serious injuries at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.
The fatality was the 23rd this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.
