Lamar man arrested on eight felony charges after shots fired with stolen handgun at 1705 Cherry

On June 1, 2019, at about 8:34 a.m., officers were dispatched to 1705 Cherry in Lamar in reference domestic disturbance that had just occurred.

It was reported that the male suspect, Jory D. Pennell, 45, Lamar, had gone to the residence in regard to some personal property.

After Pennell arrived, an altercation broke out and it is alleged Pennell fired two rounds before fleeing the scene. In the home was an adult female and her two adult sons.








Pennell was found at 26 NE 1st Road, just outside of Lamar, hiding in a residence.

With the help of the Barton County Sheriff's Office, the Missouri State Highway Patrol and assistance from the Barton County Ambulance District. Pennell was taken into custody after a short standoff and less lethal bean bag baton rounds being deployed.

After being provided medical care, Pennell was incarcerated in the Barton County Jail where he currently remains on $150,000 bond for eight felony charges filed by Mike Smalley, the Barton County prosecutor- unlawful possession of a firearm, burglary in the first degree, receiving stolen property, domestic assault, three counts of assault in the second degree and armed criminal action.

This case also cleared up a case from 2018 where a handgun had been stolen in Lamar.
