Nevada man killed when stock trailer careens into his vehicle

A Nevada man was killed in a two-vehicle accident 9:40 p.m. Wednesday on U. S. 54, two miles south of Dederick.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2001 Dodge 2500 driven by Randy S. Cooper, 61, Stockton, was pulling a small horse trailer.

The trailer became unhooked, traveled into the oncoming lane of traffic, where it was struck by a 2002 Ford F350 driven by Ronald D. Hughes, 64, Nevada, which was pulling a large stock trailer.

The Cooper trailer traveled over the Hughes vehicle and wedged between the vehicle and the trailer. The Cooper vehicle and both trailers slid off the roadway.

Vernon County Coroner David Ferry pronounced Hughes dead at the scene.

The fatality was the 33rd this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.

  1. Ron was a wonderful husband, father and friend who loved the Lord with all his heart. He will be missed by many. Our hope is in the Cross and those words "He is not here; He has risen, just as He said."
