Jasper Police Department arrests Lamar men on drug charges, confiscate crystal meth

Possession of C/S With Intent to Distribute

On Monday, June 4th, 2018 at 2:24 pm, A Jasper officer initiated a traffic stop on a red 2006 Dodge Ram truck near the intersection of Mercer and I-49.

Contact was made with the driver, Harold Ballard of Lamar, and the front passenger, Robert L. Palmer of Lamar.

After the officer learned that both occupants had a history of drug arrests, and observing physical signs of possible drug use by injection,
JCSO K9 Deputy George Datum and his K9 Holi arrived to assist.

A search of the vehicle was conducted due to probable cause after the K9 gave positive indication that drugs were in the vehicle.

A zip up pouch containing about 3.5 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine was found along with over $500 cash and used syringes.

Both Ballard and Palmer were arrested for possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute and possession of meth related drug paraphernalia.
