Liberal man airlifted to Freeman after his tractor is struck by train

A Liberal man suffered serious injuries 3:46 p.m. Monday when the 1978 Case International tractor he was driving became stuck in railroad tracks on private property two miles south of Liberal and was struck by a Burlington Northern 2018 locomotive driven by Johnathan R. Cook, 38, Kansas City.

Elmer D. Fast, 90, was airlifted to Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.

Since the collision did not take place at a crossing there was no signal device.
