Autopsy scheduled this afternoon for victim of shooting at 819 South Connor

Update #2: To respond to media inquiries, an arrest hasn’t been made and no charges have been requested. The incident is still under investigation and an autopsy has not been conducted yet. This case is classified as a homicide. We also have no known outstanding suspects as the alleged shooter was contacted at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. We have still been unable to locate immediate family of the deceased so his identity is still not being released. We have exhausted our efforts and have asked the Jasper County Coroner to assist with next of kin notification.

Update #1: an autopsy has been scheduled for Tuesday at 330pm in Springfield. No names are being released due to inability to make appropriate next of kin notifications.

Original News Release

On June 2, 2018 at 1123pm the Joplin Police Department responded to 819 South Connor for a reported shooting. Officers arrived and located an adult male on the ground in front of the residence who had been shot. Witnesses were attempting life-saving measures. Officers then provided medical aid on the male until METS and Joplin Fire Arrived and took over efforts to save the male. METS transported the victim to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Detectives were called to the scene to investigate.

The initial investigation shows the shooting took place after a disturbance between individuals. The person who had shot the male was still on scene and was spoken to by investigators. An autopsy has been scheduled and the investigation is on-going into this incident. At this time no arrests have been made.
