Nixa teen charged with DWI after double-fatality collision near Granby

A Nixa man was charged with driving while intoxicated following a two-vehicle accident 6:15 p.m. Saturday on U. S. 60 at Route M, four miles east of Granby.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a westbound 2017 Nissan Altima driven by Victor Arias Alanis, 19, Nixa, made a left turn in front of a 2004 Honda motorcycle driven by Kelly B. Utter, 43, Monett, ejecting Utter and a passenger, Robin M. Henson, 49, Exeter.

Utter and Henson were pronounced dead at the scene at 7:25 p.m. by Newton County Coroner Owen.

The fatalities were the sixth and seventh in June for Highway Patrol Troop D and the 53rd and 54th for 2018.

In addition to DWI, Alanis was charged with failure to yield, driving while suspended, no insurance, possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
