In April 2017, Neosho and surrounding areas experienced extreme weather and a related devastating flood event. Hundreds of homes within the city limits were damaged in that event and the families that lived in them were deeply affected over the next several months.
In response to that event, the federal government has allocated relief funds through Missouri Community Development Block Grant Disaster Recovery (CDBG–DR) DR-4317, to be used to address the unmet housing needs of those families affected. In order for the City of Neosho to apply for a portion of those relief funds, a preliminary interest assessment must be made of the owners and/or residents of the properties in the flood-affected areas of the city.
Working with local and state agencies, the City of Neosho has developed a survey to help evaluate the needs of and determine the level of interest from those in the community affected by the flooding. Earlier this week, surveys were mailed to addresses in flood-affected areas of Neosho.
If your residence was in one of these areas, please watch the mail for this survey. If your home was affected by the April 2017 flood event but you do not receive a survey in the mail in the next few days, you can pick one up at City Hall, Neosho Area Chamber of Commerce, or the Neosho/Newton County Library. Completed surveys can also be returned to any of those locations. We hope to have all surveys completed and returned by July 31st. Alternatively, this survey is also available online at the link below.
The results of this survey will provide the City of Neosho and partner agencies with important information about properties within the affected flood event area, interest in available assistance, and the types of services needed. Your input is invaluable in providing the information needed for the City of Neosho to qualify for these relief funds. Neither your participation in this survey nor your preliminary interest in relief funds locks you in to assistance or commits you in any way.
For more information about relief funds or this survey, please call Rachel Holcomb, Economic Development Director with the City of Neosho, at (417) 451-8050.
