Galena man arrested for aggravated battery, assault, criminal threat

(From the Galena Police Department)

On June 30 at approximately 5:30pm, The Galena Police Department was notified of a physical altercation in the area of 11th and Keller Street.

As officers arrived on scene one of the individuals took off on foot. As officers were chasing this individual, he attempted to enter three residences then ended up taking a bicycle from a female as she rode past him. He eventually ditched the bicycle south of Baker Street and ran into the wooded area, crossed a fence line into thick brush.

When officers caught up to the individual, he continued to physically resist. As the officers placed hand restraints on him, he spit, attempted to smear blood and other body fluids on the arresting officers making threats to all responding personnel.

The officers restrained the individual and identified him as Raymond L. Williams DOB: 08/17/1978. He was carried out of the wooded area and transported to the Hospital for medical evaluation. Once cleared by the hospital, he was transported to the Cherokee County Jail.

Charges are being requested through the Cherokee County Attorney’s Office for Aggravated Battery, Interference with LEO, Assault, and Criminal Threat. This is an ongoing investigation, and more charges may be requested.
