After chase, JPD arrests man who claimed to be federal agent, yelled for people to "kill the officers"

(From the Joplin Police Department)

On Sunday April 15, 2018 at 5:45 a.m. the Joplin Police Department responded to an address in the 300 Block of North Gray for a vehicle theft report.

The victim stated he went outside and started his truck, then headed back up to his house as he had forgot his wallet inside. As he got to the front door he heard his truck door slam shut and turned to see his truck speed off.

The responding officer took the report and pulled away from the residence, as the victim’s stolen truck drove by Westbound on C Street, all over the roadway at a high rate of speed. The officer initiated his lights and sirens and tried to catch up to the stolen truck.

At C Street and Maiden Lane, the truck failed to stop for the stop sign as it drove westbound on C. The truck drove over the curb on the west side of Maiden Lane, struck a privacy fence, a boat, a car, and a tree. The vehicle then went north to Morgan and west, where it struck a parked car. The stolen truck became lodged and the driver continued to try to accelerate away before jumping out and running on foot.

Officers pursued him on foot ordering him to stop. They chased him through several yards to Glover Street, and a physical altercation took place. The suspect continued to resist arrest and assault officers.

During the struggle, a loaded handgun fell from the suspect’s waistband. He began identifying himself as a “federal law enforcement agent” and yelling for anyone around to “kill the officers.” Ultimately, the suspect was taken into custody.

The suspect, Robert J. Haddenham, 39, Joplin, was arrested for numerous felony charges that were submitted to the Jasper County Prosecutor’s Office. Haddenham is currently being held with a $7,500 surety bond plus $1,000 cash.
