Crawford County mourns loss of veteran lawman

(From the Crawford County Sheriff's Office)

The Crawford County Sheriff's Office is grieving the loss of one of our own this morning. It's with great sorrow that we report the passing of Sergeant Aaron Callaway, who died unexpectedly early this morning.

Aaron joined the Sheriff's Office in 1991 as a Correctional Officer and was promoted to Deputy Sheriff in 1994. Aaron was the first School Resource Officer for the Sheriff's Office and also served as a D.A.R.E. Instructor. Aaron was involved with the Kansas Juvenile Officer's Association and the National Association of School Resource Officers; serving on the executive boards with both organizations. In 2013, Aaron retired from his full-time position with the Sheriff's Office later serving in a part-time capacity within the ranks. Most recently, he was serving as the School Resource Officer for USD #247 School District.

Aaron was an integral part of this agency. He was a valued peer and a true friend to all. He will be sorely missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Aaron's wife Jana, their children and the rest of his family.

Sheriff Dan Peak
