Incident Spotlight
Last night after midnight an officer was on patrol at 8th and Connor. He observed a male walking westbound on 8th, drinking out of a full-size vodka bottle. The male saw the officer, crossed 8th street and turned back east, the direction he came from. The officer contacted the male for public consumption.
As the officer started to talk with the male he took off running. He refused to stop and the officer deployed OC Spray on the male when he turned back at the officer. The male took off running again, still refusing to stop or follow commands.
The male suddenly stopped, while still carrying the vodka bottle. He took his t-shirt off and stuck it partially into the bottle and began trying to light the t-shirt with a cigarette lighter, creating a Molotov Cocktail.
The officer continued to give the male commands while now holding him at gunpoint, knowing how dangerous and how much harm could be caused by the improvised incendiary device.
As other officers arrived the male dropped the lighter and surrendered and was taken into custody for public consumption, resisting and assault on officer.
