(From the Joplin Fire Department)

On Wednesday, 15 November 2018, at 3:40 AM the Joplin Fire Department responded to a report of a fire alarm at 1832 S Sergeant.

While in route, a caller advised smoke was coming from the outlets, so JFD upgraded to a structure fire response. Crews arrived on scene to find smoke and fire coming from the attic. An interior attack was attempted, but due to the advancing fire the crew was forced to back out of the house and establish a defensive perimeter.

There were no injuries to firefighting crews or civilians. However, the fire did cause extensive damage and resulted in the displacement of 6 adults and 6 children (ages 9 months to 9 years of age)

The Joplin Fire Department responded with 5 units and 18 personnel and was assisted by the Joplin Police Department and METS Ambulance Service.

The cause of fire was investigated by the JFD Fire Marshal and was determined to be electrical in nature.
