To help get everyone in the holiday spirit, Joplin City Hall’s windows will be decorated for all to enjoy. The public is invited to the annual unveiling of the large windows of the historic structure, 602 South Main. The opening takes place at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, November 20.
This year’s theme is “Winter Holiday in Cinema”. Santa’s elves will also provide cookies and cocoa for those attending from 6 p.m.to 7 p.m.
The City is again working with area attractions to help design and decorate a display for one of the windows. Agencies involved are: Joplin Museum, George Washington Carver National Monument, Joplin Little Theater, Historic Murphysburg, Wildcat Friends Group, and Downtown Joplin Alliance.
The unveiling is being held prior to Thanksgiving this year, giving all who visit Joplin for the holiday or Black Friday shopping an opportunity to view the window displays. The public can enjoy the displays through Sunday, January 6, 2019.
Window decorating has been a tradition for the historic Newman Building since 1911 when its original tenant, Newman’s Department Store displayed the latest fashion trends and hot items throughout the year. During the holidays, shoppers enjoyed the elaborate decorations of the season with holiday décor, specialty items and a large assortment of toys.
The City moved into the historic building in 2005 and began the holiday display in 2009.
After seeing the displays, everyone is encouraged to join us at Spiva Park at 4th & Main for the tree lighting event. Read on for details…
