Sarcoxie Police: Momo Challenge is a hoax

(From the Sarcoxie Police Department)

There have been recent incidents reported by concerned parents and law enforcement regarding the “Momo Challenge”. Momo who has appeared during popular children's videos and games worldwide.

The character is a sculpture by an Japanese artist who specialized in special effects and horror film props.

The Momo Challenge is a HOAX, and is the responsibility of hackers.

There have been no documented cases of retribution or retaliation due to someone not following the character’s instructions. Since this has became an issue there have been more than 200 documented cases worldwide of children who have injured themselves after participating in the challenge. In the United States there has been one confirmed suicide and one confirmed serious injury.

You are urged to report and block any of this content that you find on all social media platforms. Or anything that you see as a potential risk for our kiddos.

As parents we urge you to know what your kids are doing online. Random phone checks, knowing all passwords to their social media accounts, not allowing their phones in their rooms at night. That device is yours after all, not theirs.

We give our kids access to literally the world but how many are taught how to use that privilege?
