One dead following head-on crash on I-49 north of Carthage

A Kansas man was killed in a two-vehicle collision 2:01 a.m. today on I-49 five miles north of Carthage.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2018 Ford F150 driven by Lane J. Antenen, 62, Bazine, Kansas, was traveling northbound in the southbound lane of I-49 and collided head on with a 2019 Volvo Conventional tractor driven by Kudlip Singh, 34, Aurora, Illinois.









Jasper County Deputy Coroner Scott Keatts pronounced Antenen dead at the scene at 2:18 a.m.

Singh was treated for minor injuries at Mercy Joplin.

The fatality was the 75th this year for Highway Patrol Troop D.

  2. Yearly drivers tests for 60+ should be necessary - they cant recognize that they have dementia if they are isolated. Plus they are incentivized to hide cognitive decline with the current situation

    1. And what do you suggest for 22 year olds like the one that just lost her life this week.

    2. That has very little to do with what we are talking about. I am totally on board for tests every 5 or 10 years for younger folk. The issue is that you cant prevent them from looking at their phone or driving high with a test. You can prevent an old peprson who shpuldnt be on the road very easily. This is common sense.
