MSSU's Discovery Day to be featured on Newsmakers

(From KGCS)

Visiting a university is part of the process of picking where one will go to college after high school. Missouri Southern State University wants to give those prospective students more than just a glance at what happens in various majors so it is hosting Discovery Day.

This week’s Newsmakers program brings focus to the variety of Discovery Day opportunities there are for high school students from STEM fields to Fine Arts and Performing Arts. The Communication Department will also participate in a Discovery Day set for October 4.

Laney Graham with MSSU Admissions explains the mission of Discovery Days while Dr. Mary Kilmer and Dr. Claudia Wilson discuss how the extra time with students allow them to share more hands-on opportunities available at the university. Natasha O’Brien-Davies talks about the theatre offerings during Discovery Day and how it has resulted in students choosing MSSU. Frank Pishkur outlines plans for visitors to Fine Arts and Brian Mehrens talks about exploring new technology such as an LED wall for digital production within the Communication Department.

Newsmakers is airing nightly at 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. the week of September 15 on KGCS-TV and will air at 5:30 a.m. Saturday, September 21 on KOAM-TV. It is also posted on the station’s YouTube channel: KGCS - Missouri Southern State University.

KGCS programming can be seen on channel 21 and is also available on regional cable television systems such as Sparklight, Mediacom and Optimum Internet in Carthage. The station operates as a service of the Department of Communication at Missouri Southern State University.
