Crowdfunding effort underway for MSSU robotic learning system

(From Southern News Service)

Through a new crowdfunding effort, the Industrial Engineering Technology Department at Missouri Southern State University has raised nearly a quarter of the funding goal set for purchasing a Pegasus II Robotic Learning System.

A $1,000 donation has already been made toward the goal, which represents 20 percent of the purchase price of the robotic learning system.

The Pegasus II system teaches articulated arm servo robotics and their applications in an industrial setting. The system is ideal for teaching applications such as assembly, material handling, machine tending, gluing and inspection.

It will be a valuable addition for the university’s Industrial Engineering Technology program, which works to offer students a hands-on approach to applying the knowledge gained in the classroom through laboratory and field experiences.

The goal is to raise $4,400 via crowdfunding. The remaining cost will be covered by donations from alumni, friends and the university’s business partners.

“Crowdfunding has proven to be an effective way of connecting our donors with projects around campus that they find interesting,” said Elisa Bryant, development officer for the Missouri Southern Foundation.

“The Foundation continues to work to identify projects that lend themselves to crowdfunding and are likely to receive support from our alumni and friends.”

The crowdfunding project is set to conclude on March 27. For more information, visit www.lionspaw.mssu.edu.
