SWAT team standoff at 1237 W. Willard: Joplin man says he won't surrender

At 2:20 PM today, Joplin Police officers observed Jason C. Russell, 28, Joplin, at 1237 S. Willard.

Russell was exiting the residence and retreated back into the residence at the sight of officers. A perimeter was set up on the residence.

Surrounding neighbors were provided the opportunity to leave their homes by escort from Joplin officers. An occupant of the residence that was with Russell has exited the residence and confirmed that Russell is armed at this time.

Russell has made statements that he will not be taken into custody. Joplin SWAT is on scene.

Officers will use special weapons and tactics to attempt to bring this situation to a peaceful resolution.

Russell has the following warrants: 1st Degree aggravated assault with a weapon, parole violation for domestic assault in the second-degree, possession of controlled substance, stealing, receiving stolen property, and absconding from electronic monitoring.
