Carl Junction receives $48,000 state grant to evaluate wastewater collection system

(From the Department of Natural Resources)

The Missouri Department of Natural Resources has approved a $48,000 grant to the City of Carl Junction to help fund an evaluation of the city’s current wastewater collection system, including any proposed improvements. The grant is provided through the department’s Financial Assistance Center.

Carl Junction’s wastewater collection system will be evaluated for infiltration and inflow, where groundwater and stormwater enter the sewer system through gaps in sewer lines, valves or manholes.

These extra flows can increase costs significantly and cause harmful overflows of raw sewage. The evaluation will look at improvements to fix infiltration and inflow problems and the impact of those improvements to the city’s wastewater collection system.

The engineering evaluation is estimated to cost $60,000 and is expected to be complete in late 2020.

The Department of Natural Resources provides funding to communities throughout Missouri for wastewater and drinking water infrastructure needs. For more information, visit dnr.mo.gov/env/wpp/srf/index.html.
