Lamar man charged with kidnapping, allegedly tied up woman and left her in wooden box

(From the Barton County Sheriff's Office)

Sheriff Mitchell Shaw reports that the Barton County Sheriff’s Office investigated a kidnapping case in Barton County on 11-12-2018.

A 46-year-old female alleged she had been tied up and bound by duct tape and nylon rope at her home off of A highway in Barton County.

It was told to the deputies that she then was placed and locked inside a wooden box in the home for a lengthy period of time. The woman was able to escape from the box she was held captive in and sought help.

Deputies of the Barton County Sheriff’s Office went to the residence and located the suspect in the home. He has been identified as Matthew F. Clements, age 26, of Lamar.

Clements was already wanted on several warrants out of Barton County and the City of Lamar. Clements was arrested and taken into custody at the home on A Highway.

While being escorted out of the home Clements attempted to flee from the deputies and ran for a short distance before being apprehended once again.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Clements on the criminal charges of kidnapping in the first degree and resisting arrest.

Clements is being held at the Barton County Jail on a $100,000 cash or surety bond on those charges. Sheriff Shaw wants to credit both deputies responsible in this investigation.

Deputy Chad McManis and Deputy Haven Clemons did a good job in obtaining the information needed in the case and locating the suspect and taking him into custody.
