Woman airlifted to Freeman after being found in ditch on U. S. 69, driver claims she jumped out of vehicle

On March 5, 2019 at approximately 1201 hours, the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call reporting of a female that was found lying in the east ditch, approximately ½ mile south of K-47 on US-69 Hwy. 

A witness reported that an unknown male subject entered his business and advised that a passenger in his car had just jumped out of his vehicle while traveling down the road. 

After reporting the incident to the witness, the driver and another female passenger left upon the deputies' arrival. 

The injured female identified as Tammy Laird, 49, was transported by Crawford County EMS to Ascension Via Christi, and immediately flown to Freeman Hospital in Joplin. Laird is expected to survive her injuries.

The vehicle that the unknown male driver left in was described by witnesses as a blue Dodge Durango. 

A Deputy on routine patrol located the vehicle at a residence west of Pittsburg the following morning. The unknown driver was located and identified as Travis Liming, 28 of Pittsburg. The second female passenger in the vehicle was also located and identified as Shauna West, 39 of Pittsburg. 

Liming advised that they were giving Laird a ride to Mulberry at the time of the incident. Liming and West reported that Laird, was sitting in the back seat, when she opened the door and stepped out of vehicle while it was still moving. 

The incident is still under investigation
