Jasper County Sheriff's Office warns of new scam

(From the Jasper County Sheriff's Office)

Another SCAM out there. Be informed and don't become a victim.

We received a phone call from a Jasper County resident today who advised us of a new scam going around. She said she received a call and the caller ID showed up Dish Network. It was a legitimate Dish Network customer service number, 800-333-3474.

Dish Network has been notified and says the number is for incoming calls only and they do not use it for outgoing calls.

The scammer will ask for the model number and receiver number for their unit. They will then tell them they are signing them up for a lifetime 10% discount, and will need to make a charge on their debit card of $150.00. They are also told the amount will be refunded to their account in six months.

Don't fall victim to this scam. Do not give any information over the phone, end the call.

As always the easiest way to prevent the scam calls, is to simply not answer any call that is not from a number you recognize.
