At 10:19 a.m. Thursday, Crawford County deputies were dispatched to 208 S. Clements in Mulberry, KS regarding an ongoing domestic violence incident. Deputies met the reporting party/ alleged victim (name withheld at this time) at this residence who told them of an incident that occurred today as well as a previous incident from Wednesday April 4 in which she was assaulted by Burghart.

The victim told authorities that on April 4, at 903 W. Perry in Mulberry, Burghart had assaulted her and intentionally discharged a weapon in her direction. This incident went unreported until today, when she was once again physically assaulted when she tried to leave the home. The victim was able to leave the residence and called 911 from a neighbor’s house.

Deputies were informed that Burghart was still at the West Perry address and was possibly armed with a rifle and pistol. Burghart had made threats to use the weapon prior to the victim fleeing the house with two children. Deputies were able to locate Burghart in the front yard of the residence where he was taken into custody without incident. Several guns were seized after clearing the residence.

Due to the condition of the home and unstable environment, four children were taken into police protective custody. The children were later placed by Juvenile Intake Officers.

A bond amount had not been set for Burghart at the time of this media release.

The incident remains under investigation by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.
