(From the City of Joplin)
Travelers along 20th Street will need to use caution in upcoming weeks as road surface work begins the week of April 9, 2018, weather permitting. Starting Monday, April 9 crews will begin milling work on 20th Street from Main Street to Connecticut Avenue. Pavement milling removes a portion of the paved surface at a minimum thickness to level and smooth the surface. Milling is generally completed prior to the pavement process of a road surface.
Milling work will continue through the week, and paving 20th Street will begin the week of April 16. Estimated time to complete this portion of the road surface project is two weeks.
During the project, 20th Street will remain open but will be reduced to two-lanes of traffic. Drivers should expect lane shifts, uneven lanes and rough milled pavement as the work is progressing. Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes during this time.
All businesses along 20th Street will remain open and accessible except for short durations of approximate five to ten minutes while milling and/or paving vehicles pass businesses’ entrances. This will occur up to five times throughout the project.
The two main intersections along 20th Street at Connecticut and Indiana will be completed in upcoming months, and will include enhanced pedestrian crossings, similar to those in the Main Street intersections.
D&E Plumbing & Heating is the primary contractor. Questions should be directed to Jack Schaller with Olsson Associates, at 417-781-0643.
This project is funded through the Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery program from HUD.
