Three film screenings and a production by Southern Theatre are among next week’s offerings at Missouri Southern State University.
The International Film Festival will continue with “Living is Easy with Eyes Closed” on Tuesday, Oct. 6. The Wellness Program will offer “Welcome to Me” that day as well, and then present two screenings of the animated family movie “Home” on Thursday, Oct. 8.
Southern Theatre will stage the surreal romance “No Suicide in Springtime” Tuesday, Oct. 6, through Saturday, Oct. 10. The production is the Theatre Department’s offering for the Spain Semester.
Other activities planned on campus include an outdoor painting session, a performance by an acclaimed mentalist and several athletic events.
MONDAY, OCT. 5
Plein air painting: 1 to 3 p.m., prairie preserve. Students in the Beginning Painting class will work on oil paintings of the prairie, while a faculty member from the Biology Department discusses its ecosystem and history.
TUESDAY, OCT. 6
“Welcome to Me”: 2:30 p.m. in Phelps Theatre in Billingsly Student Center. The film is about a woman with a borderline personality disorder wins the lottery and stages her own talk show. It is rated R.
“Living is Easy with Eyes Closed”: 7 p.m., Plater Hall’s Cornell Auditorium. The film is about an English teacher in Spain who is obsessed with John Lennon and sets out on a road trip to meet him. The film is not rated.
“No Suicide in Springtime”: 7:30 p.m., Bud Walton Theatre. The play by Alejandro Casona is set in a special resort that is a home for suicides … and where no one has ever died. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for senior citizens and non-MSSU students. Details: 417-625-3190.
WEDNESDAY, OCT. 7
“The Many Faces of ‘Don Quixote’”: 1 p.m. in Webster Hall’s Corley Auditorium. Dr. Jim Lile, head of the Theatre Department, will discuss the many artistic interpretations of the timeless character.
Wayne Hoffman: 7 p.m. in Corley Auditorium. The award-winning mentalist will read thoughts, move objects with his mind and more. The free performance is offered by the Campus Activities Board.
“No Suicide in Springtime”: 7:30 p.m., Bud Walton Theatre.
THURSDAY, OCT. 8
“Home”: 2:30 and 6:30 p.m., Phelps Theatre. The animated film is the story of a girl who teams up with an outcast alien after his race conquers Earth and relocates the planet’s human population. Rated PG.
Women’s Soccer vs. Central Missouri: 7 p.m., Hal Bodon Field.
“No Suicide in Springtime”: 7:30 p.m., Bud Walton Theatre.
