“Handymen,” an exhibit featuring recent works by Marco Rosichelli and Justin Shaw, will open with a presentation by the artists and an opening reception on Monday, Feb. 22, in Spiva Art Gallery at Missouri Southern State University.
A presentation by Rosichelli and Shaw will be offered at 3 p.m., followed by a reception at 4 p.m.
Both artists are professors in the art and design department at the University of Central Missouri. Shaw graduated from Missouri Southern in 2004 before completing his master’s degree in sculpture art at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. Rosichelli received his bachelor’s of fine arts from Southern Oregon University and his MFA in sculpture from Arizona State University.
The title “Handymen” refers to a return to process and making an investigation into contemporary materiality. Playful and lighthearted at first glance, these works investigate themes of regional sensibilities. Both artists have a penchant for working with their hands and utilizing traditional methods while focusing ideas through a current, critical lens.
The show will run through Wednesday, March 16. Gallery hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. It is free and open to the public.
