Man charged with DWI, airlifted to Freeman after slamming into tree

A Texas man was charged with misdemeanor driving while intoxicated following a one-vehicle accident 9:50 p.m. Saturday on Route MM, five miles east of Southwest City.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2004 Dodge Pickup driven by Caleb D. Forte, 29, Ira, Texas, began sliding, ran off the roadway, struck a ditch, overturned, and slammed into a tree.

Forte was airlifted to Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, where he was  treated for moderate injuries.

In addition to the DWI charge, Forte was also cited for careless and imprudent driving and for not wearing a seat belt.
