Apparent drunk on playground causes lockdown at Irving

(From the Joplin Police Department)

The Joplin Police Department received a “Lock Down” activation from Irving School at 12:06 P.M. on today’s date.

Irving Elementary is located at 2901 S. McClelland Blvd. Joplin, MO.

When officers arrived in the area it was determined that an adult male contacted staff on the playground asking suspicious questions.

The male appeared to be intoxicated and initially refused to leave the property.

A teacher utilized the “Lockdown Mobile Application” to notify the school and law enforcement of a potential problem. The male then left the area on foot.

Officers began checking the area around the school and located a male matching the description of the subject who had been on the playground. This person was identified as Steven Sneed, age 41 of Joplin. Sneed was arrested for trespassing. Investigation determined that this was an isolated incident.

The lock down at Irving has been lifted.
