The Southern Wind Ensemble will be joined by the Concert Band for a performance at 7:30 p.m. Friday, March 18, in Taylor Performing Arts Center at Missouri Southern State University.
Under the direction of Dr. Rick Espinosa, both groups will offer a selection of material that will showcase the groups’ talents.
The Concert Band will be feature seven guest conductors. Adjunct instructors Chase Neely and Mike Oglesby will each lead the band, as will five student conductors.
“It’s a unique opportunity for our students to get ensemble conducting experience before they get out there into the real world,” said Espinosa.
The Southern Wind Ensemble will feature a performance of “Alleluia! Laudamus Te” by Alfred Reed.
“It’s described as a ‘celebration hymn canticle of praise without words,’” said Espinosa. “The group is treated as a single, massive choir. I’ll be bring a synth organ to beef it up.
“It’s a great piece of music, and our skill set has improved significantly. I can’t wait for the audience to hear what we’re capable of.”
The concert is free and open to the public.
