City of Joplin to hold public meeting to discuss neighborhood recovery projects

The City will host an open house public meeting from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 18, at the Joplin Housing Authority Bartlett Hills Community Room, located at 1823 West 24th Street, to review plans for a neighborhood recovery project in an area from 20th Street to 32nd Street, between Mina Avenue and Maiden Lane.

Street improvement projects along with four storm water drainage projects will be completed in this area. Work will focus on storm water projects in areas near 23rd Street and S. McCoy Avenue; Adele Drive; Sunset Drive; and South McCoy Avenue (south of 26th). The street improvement projects consists of milling and paving operations as well as some full depth repairs of streets west of Maiden Lane.

Citizens are encouraged to stop by any time during these hours and view the plans of the upcoming project. City engineers and representatives of Jacobs Engineering Group, the project designer, and Bennett, Inc., the project contractor, will be available during the meeting to share details and answer questions from those attending.

In July, 2015 the Joplin City Council approved the Capital Plan for the expenditure of Community Development Block Grant – Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds focusing on the rebuilding and recovery work following the May 2011 tornado.
