On Saturday, 4-14-2018 at 3:09 p.m. the Joplin Police Department received a call of a trespasser in the 1700 Block of South Byers.
Witnesses described a male on a bicycle who was trying to gain entry into houses and looking in windows. Witnesses had photos of the suspect.
Officers recognized the male as they had contacted him earlier in the day in the 1500 block of South Connor for suspicious activity that didn’t raise to the level of making an arrest.
On Sunday, 4-15-2018, at 9 a.m. officers located the male suspect at 14th and Pearl and arrested him for trespassing for the incident the day previous.
The suspect in this case, James A. Gautney, 29, Joplin, is in custody and Jasper County Prosecutor’s Office filed one count of receiving stolen property with a $50,000 bond. The investigations are still ongoing and further charges will be considered.

Later in the day, at 12:08pm an officer took a burglary report from the 400 Block of North Byers. Some of the property taken from this burglary was identified as being in possession of the suspect arrested a few hours earlier that was seized by officers.
