Crowder College will honor the late Mort Walker, creator of Beetle Bailey, Thursday, April 12, in the Wright Conference Center. The event will open at noon with speakers beginning at 12:20pm.
The event will feature table displays from the college as well as outside organizations featuring the legacy left by Walker.
Speakers include:
· Historical background, social commentary in Beetle Bailey, and Mort Walker’s local connection – Keith Zoromski, Social Science Division Chair
· Crowder College contact with Mort Walker – Cindy Branscum, former Director of Institutional Advancement
· Council Camporall Camp Swampy – Boy Scout Troop 34, Rodney Bechdoldt
· Red, Hot and Dusty – Kay Hively, author and local historian
The college will also dedicate a newly purchased section of Mort Walker’s private scrapbook and conversations as well as Camp Swampy and the Best of Beetle Bailey. They will be housed in the newly named Herb and Barbara Schade Rare Books Collection.
After the dedication of the collection a moment of silence will be observed in honor of Mr. Walker.
This date is special as it is also the 76th anniversary of the dedication of Camp Crowder.
Tables will be available for guests to visit starting at noon and after the speakers.
