Nine people, including seven Carthage residents injured in five-vehicle crash

Nine people, including seven Carthage residents, were injured in a five-vehicle crash 4:31 p.m. Friday on MO 66, one mile east of Joplin.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a westbound Pontiac Grand Prix driven by Jerry Lawson, 72, Carthage, entered the eastbound lane, causing a Honda Accord driven by Robin M. Tichenor, 50, Republic, to swerve to avoid it and hit and ditch.

The Lawson vehicle struck a Honda Odyssey driven by Jessica A. Duncan, 31, Carthage, which was also struck by a Pontiac G6 driven by Monica N. Endicott, 22, Neosho, which was, in turn, hit by a Chevrolet Cruze driven by Sarah L. Phillips, 24, Webb City.

Lawson was treated for serious injuries at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.

Tichenor and a passenger in her vehicle, Madison M. Tichenor, 22, Republic, were treated for minor injuries at Freeman.

Duncan and four passengers in her vehicle, Haedyn L. Duncan, 4, Harlow E. Duncan, 6, Abbie L. Duncan, 35, and Hunter L. Gourley, 6, all of Carthage, were treated for minor injuries at Freeman. A fifth passenger in the Duncan vehicle, Avery Sumila, 5, Carthage, was treated for minor injuries at Mercy Hospital, Joplin.
