Wellness screenings will be offered from 8 to 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 1, in Billingsly Student Center’s Connor Ballroom.
Free and low-cost screening opportunities will be available for the campus and community, regardless of income level or insurance status.
Other events planned on campus next week include the continuation of the International Film Series and other Spain Semester events, a clarinet recital by a member of the Missouri Southern faculty and a morning of workshops for high-school tutors around the region.
TUESDAY, SEPT. 29
Custom License Plates: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Lion’s Den. Students can share a favorite photo to design a custom license plate, while supplies last.
“Viridiana”: 7 p.m., Plaster Hall’s Cornell Auditorium. The Spanish Film Festival continues with the tale of a young woman preparing to become a nun who has to confront harsh realities when she is summoned to the estate of her lecherous uncle. Not rated.
Faculty Woodwind Recital: 7:30 p.m., Corley Auditorium. Dr. Cheryl Cotter will present a clarinet recital.
WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 30
Tutor Day: 1 p.m., Billingsly Student Center. Nearly 140 high-school tutors from around the region will learn skills they can utilize when working with their peers. Sessions will include information about learning styles, time management and promoting self-learning.
THURSDAY, OCT. 1

“Don Quixote: Spain’s Classic Novel”: 9:30 a.m., Phelps Theatre in Billingsly Student Center. Faculty members from the English Department will present excerpts from Cervantes’ classic novel.
“Ant-Man”: 2:30 and 6:30 p.m., Phelps Theatre. The Campus Activities Board will offer free candy and drinks along with the screening of the latest entry in Marvel’s Cinematic Universe.
FRIDAY, OCT. 2
La Movida Madrilena (The Madrilenian Scene): Noon, Corley Auditorium. Missouri Southern faculty member Dr. Susana Liso will discuss how artists, filmmakers, rock bands and singers explored their newfound freedom of expression after the death of dictator Francisco Franco in 1975.
Volleyball vs. Emporia State: 6 p.m., Robert Young Gymnasium.
“Ant-Man”: 6:30 p.m., Phelps Theatre.
