Upcoming Events and Activities at Joplin Schools
Friday, Sept. 18
Representatives from Legacy Farm and Lawn will hold a drone demonstration for students at Franklin Technology Center. The event will take place from 9-10:15 a.m. and from 1:30-3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 18. The event will start with a presentation in the auditorium at Joplin High School, 2104 Indiana Ave., and then move to the practice football field in front of the high school. The purpose of the event is to show students how technology, like drones, has been incorporated into various career fields such as agriculture, construction and engineering. If weather does not permit the outdoor demonstration, the event will be moved to Monday, Sept. 21, at the same times (media will be alerted of changes due to weather).
Friday, Sept. 18
Representatives with Johnson, Vorhees & Martucci will visit Irving Elementary School, 2901 S. McClelland Blvd., at 9:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 18, to deliver sweatshirts and winter hats for all students in kindergarten through fifth grade. In addition, students in third through fifth grade will also receive various school supplies. This is just one of several presentations the business will make throughout the school district. Over the next several weeks, they will donate a sweatshirt and winter hat to every kindergarten through fifth grade student in the district and various school supplies to every third through eighth grade student in the district.
"For the last four years, we have given hats and sweatshirts to area schools," said Scott Vorhees, attorney and partner with Johnson, Vorhees & Martucci. "We are happy to help children stay warm in winter and also show their school pride. This year we are also adding pencils, pencil bags and folders with Joplin Eagles. This is our small part to give back to our community, and we would like to encourage other businesses to also give back in some way. This is one way to build a better community by reaching out and helping others."
