A full Spanish meal, a lecture and a reading session are planned for next week as part of the Spain Semester at Missouri Southern State University.
A Taste of Spain will be held from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, in Mayes Dining Hall. Prepared by Sodexo, the menu will include chicken paella, tortilla de patatas, sherry garlic shrimp, chorizo and chicken rice pot, patata bravas, gazpacho, avocado and tuna tapas, churros and more. The cost is $6.95, plus tax.
A hiking trip through Spain taken by more than 200,000 people every year will be the topic of “Walking the Way of Saint James: A Pilgrim’s View of Spain” at noon Wednesday, Sept. 16, in Webster Hall’s Corley Auditorium. Dr. Pedro Talavera-Ibarra a professor of Spanish at Missouri Southern, will recreate a personal experience through the historical places and people along the Way of Saint James.
Members of the English Department faculty will offer readings at 11 a.m. Sept. 17, in Phelps Theatre, on the first floor of Billingsly Student Center. The event will feature a variety of writings from diverse authors to provide examples of some of Spain’s most venerated literature.
Other activities planned on campus include screenings of a summer blockbuster and an award-winning Spanish film, two senior recitals and performances of “The Secret Rapture” by Southern Theatre.
TUESDAY, SEPT. 15

Running with the Bulls Photo Booth: 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., main floor of BSC. Students can visit the photo booth for pictures of themselves taking part in the famous festival in Pamplona, Spain. Presented by CAB.

“Death of a Cyclist”: 7 p.m. in Plaster Hall’s Cornell Auditorium. The film received the Critics Prize at the 1955 Cannes Film Festival. Not rated.
Senior Voice Recital: 7:30 p.m., Webster Hall’s Corley Auditorium. Senior vocal performance major Grace Randolph will present her recital.
“The Secret Rapture”: 7:30 p.m. in the Bud Walton Black Box Theatre. The production is for mature audiences only. Admission is free for Missouri Southern students and staff; $5 for adults; and $3 for senior citizens and other students. Details: 417-625-3190.
