Man charged with DWI, assault after chain reaction 6-vehicle accident near Neosho

An Oklahoma man was charged with driving while intoxicated after causing a chain reaction six-vehicle accident 8:50 p.m. Friday on U. S. 60, six miles west of Neosho.

According to the Highway Patrol report, vehicles were stopped in a road construction zone waiting for a pilot car when a 2014 Dodge 3500 driven by Duane R. Goodgion, 45, Tuttle, Oklahoma, rear-ended a 2000 Honda Passport driven by Russell L. Roark, 52, Aurora, which struck a 2014 Chevrolet SUV driven by Allen R. Janssen, 77, Bella Vista, Arkansas, which hit a 2008 Cadillac Passenger Car driven by Darrel L. Van Roekel, 76, Pea Ridge Arkansas, which hit a 2010 Dodge Pickup driven by Dona M. Twigg, 61, Duncan, Oklahoma, which hit a 2005 Ford Taurus driven by Holli B. Sampson, 23, Neosho.

Ruark and a passenger in his vehicle, Roy A. Ruark, 53, Aurora, were treated for serious injuries at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin. Janssen and a passenger in his vehicle, Phyllis J. Janssen, 78, Bella Vista, were treated for moderate injuries. A passenger in the Von Roekel vehicle, Joann D. Van Roekel, 74, Pea Ridge, was treated for minor injuries at Freeman West Hospital.

In addition to DWI, Goodgion, who was not injured, was charged with seven counts of felony assault and one count of careless and imprudent driving.
