Three Joplin residents injured in near head-on collision on 43

Three Joplin residents were injured in a two-vehicle accident 4:30 p.m. today on MO 43, five miles south of Joplin.

According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2005 Chevrolet Impala driven by Velma Schmidt, 73, Jay, Oklahoma, crossed the center line and struck a 2003 Hyundai driven by James L. Sharp, 21, Joplin nearly head on.

Sharp received minor injuries and two passengers in his vehicle, Allison N. Grall, Joplin, and Brandy D. Ketron, 18, Joplin received moderate injuries. All were treated at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin.
