Barton County Sheriff's Report

On 01-13-2018 The Barton County Sheriff's Office took a report of a burglary and arson case. Deputies responded to an address at 1051 East C Highway. It appeared that a building had been entered and damaged. A excavator on the property was set on fire. The investigation continues in the case.

On 01-13-2018 The Barton County Sheriff's Office was called to a home on KK highway south of Lamar for a burglary. The reporting party advised that he had left the home for a short amount of time and when he returned his medication was missing from his home. The investigation in the case is ongoing.

On 01-15-2018 the Barton County Sheriff's received a 911 call about a truck on fire in a field. The truck was located just off of SE 50th LN and south of 126 highway. The Golden City Fire Department and Deputies from the Sheriff's Office responded. After further investigation the truck was found to be stolen out of Jasper County drove to Barton County and set a fire. The investigation continues in the case.

On 01-12-2018 the Sheriff's Office took a report of a stolen chain saw in the northwest part of the county off of V highway. The reporting party advised that in the early morning hours a vehicle was heard outside of the home, but they didn't think anything about it. The next morning when they got around they found the chainsaw that had been on the front porch was missing. The investigation is ongoing in the theft of the chainsaw.

On 01-11-2018 A deputy with the Sheriff's Office responded to a residence in the southwest part of the county in reference to a subject that had found an item in a vehicle. The reporting party had a borrowed vehicle from a car dealership. The reporting party observed a floor mat that was positioned differently and appeared to have something underneath it. The reporting party moved the floor mat and found a firearm. The firearm was seized and taken back to the Sheriff's Office. An informational report has been taken in the case and the car dealership has been contacted. The investigation continues in the case.
