After 24 years of coming to Joplin City Hall, City Clerk Barbara Hogelin has the day off. Actually, she has every day off from now on - she retired from her position on Tuesday, January 2, 2018.
Hogelin’s last act at the January 2 City Council meeting was to remove the “Assistant” desk plate in front of Barb Gollhofer’s place at the dais, as Gollhofer has been named to succeed Hogelin. This followed Mayor Mike Seibert’s recognition for her on behalf of the seated Council, as well as all preceding Council members as he read a Resolution quoting several statistics of Hogelin’s work at City Hall.
Along with the 550 agendas she wrote for regular Council meetings and 5,500 of ordinances and 1,150 resolutions she archived, Hogelin was also recognized for her passion of Joplin’s history and municipal government management. In 2017, she was named Missouri City Clerks and Finance Officers Association Outstanding City Clerk and was a finalist for Joplin’s honorable Annie Baxter Award.
Upon leaving the dais, Hogelin received a standing ovation from Council members and those in attendance, and then hugged her successor Barb Gollhofer before leaving the Chambers. Gollhofer has served as the Assistant City Clerk since March 2008.
“I’m appreciative of the opportunities and experiences that have allowed me to be appointed to this position,” said Gollhofer. “I look forward to following in the footsteps of Barbara Hogelin, who was a great city clerk. I will continue to provide effective records management and first-class customer service that the Joplin City Clerk’s office is known for.”
Gollhofer attained the Missouri Registered City Clerk (MRCC) certification in 2012. Since that time she has achieved Continuing MRCC status and Sustaining MRCC status towards the highest certification level of Missouri Professional City Clerk (MPCC).
She is also active in the Southwest Missouri City Clerks and Finance Officers group, and currently serves as Treasurer for them. At the City, Gollhofer is a member of the Employee Events/Activities Committee, and the HealthNuts (Employee Insurance) Committee. She is active in Joplin Soroptimists, is a member of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church and serves on its Parish Council.
Gollhofer is a 2016 graduate of the Joplin Area Chamber of Commerce’s Leadership program and attended the Citizens Police Academy in 2012. She is married to Larry. They have six grown children and nine grandchildren they enjoy spending time with when not working.
